A FOOTBALL club has devised an inventive plan to attract new community-based sponsors.
Swindon Supermarine Football Club, based at Hunts Copse, in Supermarine Road, is hoping to sell 50 tickets for £250 each, to companies and individuals looking for the chance to advertise with the club.
The club will then draw five winners during the sponsorship grand draw on July 29, before the club’s friendly with Swindon Town Football Club at Hunts Copse.
First prize in the draw is home shirt sponsorship, second prize is away kit sponsorship, third prize is a warm-up kit sponsorship, fourth prize is a chance to advertise on Hunts Copse pitchside marketing boards, and fifth prize is advertising in the matchday programmes.
All entrants will also gain two season tickets.
Draw organisers say 30 of the 50 tickets have already gone to national and local firms, along with individuals looking to give potential prizes to charities.
Judi Moore, who is the club’s secretary and a director of the Southern Football League, said the draw would benefit not only the first team but other players who use the club including under eights and Sunday league players.
She said: “We are very much a community-based club and we think it’s important to keep local ties.
“We already have 30 ticket holders but we want to keep the momentum going before the big draw.
“This means a lot to everyone involved, we have built the club from a local level to a semi-professional squad, so to see it grow further it means loads to everyone from current to former players and staff.
“I think that most clubs in this economic climate are being a bit more cautious over their plans.
“In terms of our club we have ambition to develop our ground, continue to develop our role in the community and continue to develop as a football club in the southern league as best we can.”
Mark Collier, first team manager, said he was keen to find a local sponsor for the club.
He said: “From a football point of view this is vital income. We would like a local sponsor – we travel all over the south west and for the companies that is great exposure.”
The club also hosts Advertiser Cup finals and ladies’ and girls’ teams.
Last year all but two of the players on the first team squad came from Swindon.
