YOUNG Joshua Weaver used his dad’s love of sport as the inspiration for his Draw Daddy competition entry.
The nine-year-old drew dad Paul, 30, alongside a cricket bat because the one thing the pair love to do is play cricket together.
He won the eight to 11 category of the competition, winning his dad a £100 gift card for Swindon Designer Outlet and a Le Creuset champagne gift set.
Joshua was at his nan Diane’s house in Stratton when she suggested he entered the competition because he was such a talented little boy.
“She said that she would send it in for me if I drew the drawing,” said the Lainesmead School pupil.
Joshua, of Cumberland Road, Old Walcot, then forgot about the competition until a phone call from the Adver told him he had won.
“I was really pleased because I spent hours drawing it with pencil and felt tips,” he said.
“I really like drawing so I’m happy I won.”
Little Hannah Parsons from The Crossroads in Milton Lilbourne, near Pewsey, also chose a sporty theme when drawing her dad Peter, 48.
The youngster drew her dad wearing his favourite Swindon Town football shirt and won the competition’s seven and under category.
Hannah, seven, won her dad a £100 Swindon Designer Outlet gift card and five free shirts from TM Lewin.
Mr Parsons said: “Hannah does love drawing but there were so many entries we were delighted when she won.
“I’m sure we’ll end up going to Hamleys with our £100 vouchers because Hannah will probably want some new colouring pens.”
This year’s Draw Daddy competition coincided with Father’s Day on June 21.
More than 600 entries flooded the Adver offices before appearing in our Draw Daddy supplement last month.
Joshua and Hannah and their dads visited Swindon Designer Outlet on Wednesday where they received their prizes and certificates.
Will Preene, the Adver’s newspaper sales executive, said: “We had many talented entries this year and votes were very close.
“We’d like to congratulate our two young winners Hannah and Joshua and their dads. Well done.”
