WOMEN in Swindon are being urged to seize their last chance to enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Lydiard Park.

There are just 2,000 places left for the both 5km women-only races on Saturday and Sunday and anyone wanting to take part must do so in the next two days.

So far 5,000 women have signed up to the fundraiser, but entries for the Saturday race close Wednesday and Thursday is the last time you can put your name forward for Sunday’s race.

The Race for Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event series. Women of all ages and fitness levels are invited to walk, jog or run 5km to raise money to beat cancer.

Natasha Russell, Swindon event manager for Race for Life, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have already accepted our invitation to Race for Life in Swindon. Together, they will help us create a fantastic atmosphere on the day and raise crucial funds to help beat cancer.

“But we don’t want anyone to miss out. There are limited places left for the Swindon event so we are reminding women who want to take part that they must enter as soon as possible to ensure they don’t miss out.”

Last year, 4,700 women took part in Swindon’s Race for Life helping raise a huge £268,500 for Cancer Research UK’s live saving work. And the charity hopes to hit its fundraising target of £270,000 this year.

Natasha added: “Race for Life is an amazing experience, with local women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes coming together to make a positive difference to the lives of people touched by cancer.

“They motivate and inspire each other to complete the 5km. Many simply walk round, chatting and having fun but they all share the wonderful spirit of sisterhood and pride on the day.”

Women taking part are reminded to bring their Donation Station bags to the event. The bags should be filled with quality unwanted items, which then get sold in local Cancer Research UK shops. Unwanted clothes, DVDs, CDs and books collected from Race for Life events across the UK have raised a further £1.5m to fund life saving research.

Mums, daughters, sisters, friends and colleagues who want to take part in this year’s Swindon Race for Life can log onto to www.raceforlife.org.uk to register or by calling 0871 641 2282.
