New assistant chief for Wiltshire Police

WILTSHIRE Police’s new Assistant Chief Constable has vowed to make the county the safest place in the UK.

Patrick Geenty, previously of Humberside Police, will take up his new role on Monday.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have been appointed by the police authority as an Assistant Chief Constable in Wiltshire,” he said.

“I’m greatly looking forward to working with the chief officer team to deliver the Chief Constable’s vision of making Wiltshire the safest county in the country.”

The father-of-two entered the police service in 1983 when he joined Gloucestershire Constabulary.

His early service saw him undertake a variety of roles in both uniform and CID before he moved to Humberside Police in 1998 as a Chief Inspector.

Assistant Chief Constable Geenty’s roles in Humberside included Superintendent of Operations in Hull, Divisional Commander for East Yorkshire and Head of Corporate Development.”

Wiltshire Chief Constable Brian Moore said: “I’m delighted that Patrick Geenty will be joining us here at Wiltshire as one of our two assistant chief constables.

“He brings with him a broad range of experience and will further strengthen our senior officer team within Wiltshire Police.”

Welcome to the wilds of Wiltshire.

Any chance of stopping the video fund raising unit from not parking illegaly in Wroughton on pavements and in bus laybys as the feed the ever hungry budget?

I am so glad that ACC Geenty will be helping CC Brian Moore fulfil his vision for Wiltshire.

Any chance however he could incorporate more of the public’s priorities.

I think most people want coppers to focus on crimes that matter, like Anti-Social behaviour, public nuisance, drunkenness, burglary, car-theft and vandalism.

Unfortunately coppers seem to want to focus on persecuting motorists, harassing motorists, issuing lucrative tickets to motorists and issuing crime numbers to everyone else.

FYI anti social behaviour is a civil matter hence the reason the council deal with it rather than the police, the police work with the council on this.

what exactly did he propose to do to make the county safer during his job interview?
Can we ask this document as a freedom of information request?

Really.

So when there are half a dozen yobs outside your house throwing stones at the window you should call the council?

When the streets are full of yobs swearing, shouting, fighting, spitting, drinking and behaving aggressively, you call the council?

Or if someone breaks open the door of your block of flats to use the inside as an underage drinking den or drug shop, still the council?

Or they vandalize your car, set fire to your shed, graffiti the fence, nick your wheelie bin or whatever, just the council.

These things are crimes and the police should deal. When these happen to people, they diminish their quality of life, especially the elderly who are too scared to go out at night.

fair, you are 100% wrong.

The definition of anti-social behaviour under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (Criminal Legislation not Civil) is that it is 'behaviour likely to cause alarm, harassment or distress to members of the public not of the same household as the perpetrator'.

Depending on the circumstances, many kinds of behaviour can be called anti-social

The main examples include:

* Criminal damage/vandalism
* Threatening behaviour
* Harassment
* Abandoned vehicles
* Neighbour problems
* Noise
* Dogs fouling
* Fly tipping

Just another promising to sort out swindons problems--they all tried--they all failed--my tip--sort out your own violent officers who revel in rubbing arrested peoples heads on the concrete or jumping all over them.

More empty words from an office-bound career copper more interested in his perks and pension than worrying about tackling crime (real crime that is).

Will he be out doing real police work, and kicking plod's arse to actually catch some criminals rather than pi**ing about harrassing law-abiding, hard-working, tax-paying citizens? Don't hold your breath.

And fair_enuf... don't be such a d**k.

Let me see now, Humberside police force 1997 under the leadership of CC David Westwood had several encounters with a certain Ian Huntley. The failure by that Force to share it's knowledge allowed Huntley to then murder two ten year old girls, Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.

Just how safe should we feel with this man as 2nd IC of Wiltshire Police

Eirst priority of this superman will be to instruct all the officers how to fill in all the new fixed penalty tickets and the correct way to advise the recipient how to accept it and sign it--even if they disagree ith the claim--or havea night in the cells--oops no for druggies they can get their products taken and volunteer to take counselling. Modern policing--revenue collectors.

I think it is true to say that Wiltshire Police like other forces has a serious image problem and it is not helped by police officers of various ranks constantly appearing in the media and on the television at the drop of a hat.

As I pointed out when a Kent Police Officer, if we needed a logo that said Kent Police Care, then we not doing our jobs properly. It is vital that the police reconnect with the community.

That is not achieved by rolling out 'PC' initiatives which may make minority groups happy, but 'wind up' the majority who see less officers, more blatant crime and less convictions.

May I suggest that Mr Moore and Mr Geenty stop trying to be politicians, we have enough incompetent numbers of those, and start being Police Officers, and make decisions that reflect the will of the people.

All pointless, self-congratulatory hot air from yet another overpaid police chief.

He knows as well as we do that as long as our judges and courts keep handing down unduly lenient sentences or, as in many cases, letting convicted criminals walk free to re-offend, anything and everything the police do is pretty much a waste of all our time and money.

The police know who the hardcore that create the vast majority of crime, the judges refuse to jail them to protect the public and cut crime.

The whole situation has run its course, time for reform in our courts. Starting with locally elected judges who face re-election every two years.

We'd soon see a very rapid improvement in their attitude and sentencing if this policy were to be introduced.

The next best thing would be minimum sentencing guides, so that judges are unable to be overly lenient and let people off when they quite clearly shouldn't.

How about letting Swindonians, Wiltshire citizens vote in police Chiefs on an election program?
A bit like American sheriffs?Since the police is here to serve their community it is fair to expect accountability

swindonistani, it is already UKIP policy and as can be seen by the date on the document long before the other parties 'suggested it'.

Absolutely but until a GE where I hope people vote UKIP in their millions nothing is likely to happen. Mind you given that 84% of all Tory Candidates and sitting MP's disagree with their leaders policy on the Lisbon Treaty vote, we could see a huge upsurge in support for UKIP.

That's assuming these candidates are Honest with the Public!!!!!!!! saying please vote UKIP our leader won't give you a referendum.

People have finally realised that Labour, tories, libdem are just all in it together, they are in fact close friends, been to school together, it is a gentlemans club there is no denial about this.
These people not only are MPs but come from wealthy background.
Why would they do anything to change the current political system, this would be suicidal for either the big 3!
What we need a totally going away from the establishment and start voting on the Program, actions!!!
Why is there no former soldiers as MPs? the question is:
because most soldiers are not wealthy, do not have a powerful social network and most importantly do not belong to the establishment.
BUT I would vote for a former soldier a million times over any other candidates of the big 3 parties!
This Police nomination is just that, an establishement decision to place one of their mate in a cushy job, nothing to do with doing a better jo or serving the community, this is pure and simple establishement decision.

ACC and above has always been a Home Office decision, not a local decision, which is of course wrong.

Ankh, the one thing that is consistent about your posts is they contribute nothing to the debate.

Had you bothered to read the context in which UKIP was mentioned was swindonistani raised the issue of elected police chiefs. I am sorry if you couldn't follow that.

Ankh says...

I follow it perfectly Bob.

You turn every story on this site into a "UKIP are going to save the world" forum and your posts "contribute nothing" as they they mostly have "nothing" to do the the issue.

Bobfm says...
9:50am Sun 12 Jul 09

So having a policy of local elected police chiefs, as a poster was suggesting, in an article about the 'Home Office' appointed ACC is '"nothing" to do the (with)the issue'.

Very enlightening. So what has your repeated attacks on me have to then on any of the threads you post on?.
