Chaka Khan, Lulu and Anastacia set for Oasis

THREE of the biggest voices in the music world – Lulu, Chaka Khan and Anastacia – are set to blow the dome off the Oasis leisure centre with a high-volume, high-octane gig later this year.

The three divas have joined forces for a new show called called Here Come The Girls, and they are stopping off in Swindon on November 27.

Tickets go on sale at 9.30am tomorrow.

The show promises to be filled with camp, get-up-and-dance songs that everyone will recognise, set against a backdrop of high glamour.

Lulu, who hit on the idea of bringing the three together, said: “Putting this together has been exciting and I am thrilled that these great voices - now my great friends, Chaka Khan and Anastacia - are sharing the experience with me.

“The show is a celebration of women, with a little bit of mischief and a lot of fun.”

Lulu has performed in the town twice before, as support for Elton John when he played the County Ground in 2005, and again at the football ground back in 1976, when she was dating Bee Gee Maurice Gibb.

She is best known for her first hit, Shout, which was released in 1964 when she was 15, but she has gone on to make the charts in every decade since. She performed with Take That on their 1993 No 1 Relight My Fire.

Grammy award-winning soul singer Chaka Khan has been in the music business since the 1960s, and her biggest hits include the anthems I’m Every Woman, Ain’t Nobody and I Feel for You. She said: “The idea for this show caught my imagination the moment Lulu mentioned it to me.

“We have now built a show that we ourselves would be excited to go and see.”

Anastacia, nicknamed “the little lady with the big voice”, first found fame in 2000.

Her most memorable songs include I’m Outta Love, Left Outside Alone and Sick and Tired.

She added: “I’ve long been an admirer of both Lulu and Chaka Khan so it’s a dream come true to be touring with them.”

Tickets for Here Come The Girls range from £25 to £40 and can be bought from the Oasis on (01793) 445401 or from www.gigsandtours.com or www.ticketmaster.co.uk.

Wonderful - Swindon are attracting top named stars (?) to a Sports Hall / Swimming Pool.

£40...?!?? That's rather steep for a sports hall venue... Even the cheaper £25 are quite expensive!

(Security word poor-sort!)

I like you comments Janais - top named stars way passed their prime playing a Sports Hall/Swimming Pool - way to go!!! Maybe next time we get even bigger names - dig out Tina Turner ;-) (nothing against Turner, but also past her best!!)

you people make me laugh, and not in a good way, - always quick to have a dig, but having been to concerts at many venues up and down the country, Wembley with Robbie had a speaker problem and the mikes went down, The oasis is a good venue, yes it is a sports hall but the acoustics are great and no one can complain, big names would not play if there music was compromised, so if you have been and have a postive message then all well and good, but if you haven't, I suggest you get out a bit more. Paul Weller/Madness/Lily Allen all have played or due to play there and all sold out, and I will be there having a good time at a local venue. Well done for Swindon Oasis.

Oh no, is this the start of the decline? We were getting some great, and varied, acts playing the Oasis, and now this! Oh dear

SMB: I've been to more than fair few concerts myself, up and down the UK, and in other countries around the world - small and large venues - and I have to say that the acoustics in the Oasis are the worst I have ever heard... The roof is too low for the size of the room, so the sound ends up being very flat; the material of the room itself the sound too quickly making it sound very dull and unclear...

I've seen a couple of bands recently at the Oasis - one of them being The Feeling who I really wanted to see - and the acoustics issue took the edge off both gigs.

The floor is not suitable for that amount of people to be stood on it, and there is simply not enough adequate fresh air getting into a small-ish room with so many people... I nearly died of heat stroke seeing The Feeling - and that was in November!! (I've been in some mosh-pits in my life and never been that hot!)

And god forbid anyone that's desparate to try and fight their way to the loo during a show...

Swindon REALLY needs a decent music venue - that might attract even MORE big names to a local venue!

And if you ever get the chance to get to the Royal Albert Hall or the Union Chapel in London, you'll know what good acoustics are!!

The Oasis is not a venue for music - fact

If you disagree I suggest YOU get out a bit more and see what is on offer outside of pathetic Swindon.
