Dizzee Rascal thrills Swindon's Oasis

DIZZEE Rascal blew minds and melted hearts during a sell-out night, which he capped off with a truly explosive track.

The 24-year-old British rapper, dressed in a red T-shirt emblazoned with his own face, and sporting a red baseball cap, performed hits including Holiday, Dance Wiv Me, and his latest single Dirtee Cash and Bonkers – which coincided with a fireworks and confetti display.

Most of his songs were accompanied with a mixture of old school and hip hop beats played by an his on-stage DJ.

Almost 3,000 fans of all ages rammed themselves into the Oasis to watch the show, which is part of a UK tour.

Becky Hanmore, 16, of West Swindon, had to be carried out of the auditorium by bouncers after she collapsed with dehydration mid-way through the show.

Becky, who became a fan after seeing Dizzee at Swindon’s Big Weekend in May, said: “It was a bit sweaty in there and I got dehydrated but the show was awesome. I had a great time. Bonkers was by far his best track.”

Bethany Knights, 15, from Ramsbury, said she thought Dizzee was amazing.

She said: “He is such a good MC and is a lot better than other acts because he actually interacts with the crowd. One minute he will be singing to someone and then slapping hands the next, I love that. The best part about him is that he sings about lots of things other than sex, drugs and money.”

Abby Brinksworth, 14, from Marlborough, said she was into his unique beats and different influences including grime and electro hop.

Footsie, from opening act Newham Generals, said life on tour was fun.

Apparently, all the support acts on the tour along with Dizzee have spent many of their evenings playing Call of Duty on Play Station 3 and ‘holding topical debates’.
