Toby’s voice in a million big break

SCHOOLBOY Toby Chevis will have his dreams come true in January when he takes to the O2 Arena in London and performs a solo to a crowd of almost 18,000 people.

Toby, 14, from Wanborough, was handpicked to a sing a solo at the Voice in a Million concert alongside X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent stars to raise awareness of adoption in the UK.

The teenager from Grittleton House School, near Chippenham, has been singing since he was three years old and believes this is going to be the moment of his life.

He said: “This is going to be awesome.

“I don’t really get nervous – I just love performing so this is the chance of a lifetime.

“The choir behind me is going to be around 4,000 people so that will feel great to sing with them backing me up.

“This is a huge amount of people but this is what I want to do as a career so it is a great opportunity.

“My brothers Harry and Charlie think it is pretty cool and they always come along. I am ready for this and it is going to be great.”

Toby auditioned with thousands of other youngsters to get a chance to take part in the mammoth gig on January 28 at the UK’s largest indoor venue.

Toby’s mum Rachel and dad Nick are overjoyed with their son’s success.

Mrs Chevis said: “We are so unbelievably proud of Toby and this is something he wants to do as a living so takes it very seriously.

“When we found out he was going to get a solo spot we were chuffed – to come out top of everyone that auditioned is great.

“Toby spent his half term at Shepperton Studios in Surrey helping to record a CD of the songs and his solo which will be released in December. He is a little star.”

Toby is also part of the Swindon band Guitar Stools and Cigarettes who won the 2009 Swindon Battle of the Bands.

Narrators for the O2 show include Rick Wakeman, Sinitta, Nicky Campbell, James O'Brien and Toby Anstis.

Celebrities are also lining up to support the project.

Piers Morgan said: “Every child needs a loving family. If Voice in a Million results in just one child finding a new mum and dad and a secure family environment, it will be worth its weight in gold. It's projects like this that can really make a difference.”
