Grant will help make homes more secure

Wiltshire Police’s Bobby Van Trust is to use a £1,000 donation from the Co-op to make people’s homes more secure.

The trust is a charity which provides a free home security service for vulnerable and disadvantaged people and those aged over 60.

Burglaries and domestic violence can have a devastating impact on people’s lives leaving them feeling unsafe in their own homes.

The Bobby Van staff help to restore that feeling of safety and confidence by doing a home security check and installing the appropriate equipment.

Referrals are made to the trust from organisations including Wiltshire Police, Age Concern and Social Services.

But anyone who fits Bobby Van’s criteria and has concerns over their personal and home safety can refer themselves to the trust.

Edgar Evans from the south west region of the Co-operative group presented Alan Weston, the manager of the Bobby Van Trust, with the much-needed funds last week.

It will be used on a wide range of materials used in the day-to-day security upgrading of homes in Swindon and Wiltshire.

“It is a tribute to all of the people involved in our work at Bobby Van Trust that we have been chosen to receive this funding,” said Mr Weston.

“We feel that the service we provide is second to none. All of the funds given are spent in Swindon and Wiltshire to provide for the vulnerable and needy and obviously the Co-operative group community fund recognised this.”

Mr Evans added: “The Co-op has great pleasure in supporting the Bobby Van Trust. It shows the value of our community dividend project, which seeks to put back from our profits something to benefit our members and the community in general.”

A clay shoot at Barbury Shooting School, near Wroughton, raised £14,500 for the Bobby Van Trust last October.
