Talk to be held on UFOs

WEIRD Events, a new organisation based in Swindon, is holding a series of talks in the run-up to its paranormal and UFO conference in August.

The talks, which are held on the last Saturday of each month, will include well known speakers such as Ministry of Defence UFO Helpdesk official Nick Pope, and paranormal investigator Malcolm Robinson.

Organiser Chris Williams said: “In February we welcome Trystan Swale to Swindon. The talk covers the diluted truths, outright lies and red herrings that abound in the investigation and research field of UFOs.”

The talks are held in The Restaurant, Kings Hotel, Wood Street. Doors open at 7.15pm and each talk finishes at about 9.30pm. Entry is £6.

Has anyone found out who the hoaxer is that has been sending lighted helium balloons over the town since last summer?

I bet the UFO believers have been having a field day since the craze for Chinese Flying Lanterns took hold.

So that's what it is, I thought it was someone sending up helium filled balloons with glowsticks inside! I've never heard of a craze for these, no one else I've mentioned it to has either.

They've been at most weddings/birthday bashes I've been to during 2009.

Hi,
Take some time to look at the talks we are holding. This one for example is a skeptical view of the subject matter and a very interesting one at that.

The talks are a balance of different beliefs and different subjects.

Hope to see you there!

Chris.

Very interesting if you are completely hat stand. I think I'll leave you and your hippy mates to your mass debate!

Good luck on your meetings, Chris, the sort of comments on this item are from people who centuries ago would have declared the earth was flat!
Most likely 98% of sightings can be explained rationally, its the other 2% that are the intriguing ones.
Why would we think that, with a universe as vast as this is, that we would be the only life form?
PS You'd be surprised what I encounter up there on my broomstick!

For the record, I'm the next speaker and I do not believe that UFOs are alien craft. Rather, my own suspicion is that they are misidentified manmade objects or natural phenomena. The subject of the talk is less to do with UFOs themselves, more the people who feel government agents are trying to throw ufologists off the "truth".

To answer the question, the ticket price of £6 covers the rental of the room, speaker travel expenses and the rest (if any) goes towards the fund for the conference in August to try and keep the ticket prices reasonable and put on an informative and balanced weekend.
We are not for profit, so I make no money out of this, neither does any of the people who help me or the speakers.

Does the ticket price include a ride in a UFO?
.
And are there any nibbles?
.
Or those 'UFO' sweets with sherbert in..?
