A MUDDY seven-mile circuit in the Brecon Beacons lies in wait for volunteers of the Swindon Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre.

The organisation, now based in West Swindon, is hoping to attract three teams of 12 people for the MS Challenge on Saturday, June 19.

A fundraising event takes place each year involving teams from over the UK gathering in Snowdonia, North Wales.

This year it will be staged at the South Wales mountain site for the first time.

Volunteers will carry a wheelchair passenger with MS safely over a demanding hill course.

The course sees mud, rocks, steep slopes and any other challenging hazards.

Teams will also need to carry at least three torches as the route will go through a disused railway tunnel.

Centre manager Jackie Wray said: “The course should be just as muddy as Snowdonia and still just as fun.

“It will be interesting to see what our volunteers make of it. We’re hoping to get at least three teams together so if any individuals, or corporate teams looking for a team bonding exercise, want to take part then please get in touch.

“We want to get our brilliant new centre moving. Anyone up for a challenge should get involved.”

Last year Swindon teams dressed up as smurfs, pirates and an “all in the pink” team raised £5,000.

The Swindon Therapy Centre is a totally self-funded group and has been treating people with MS since August 1983.

It was formerly based at Cheney Manor Industrial Estate but moved to its new base earlier this year.

Sponsorship from the event will go towards the £100,000 running costs of Bradbury House centre, in Westmead Drive.

Further fundraising events have been organised. These include collections at Sainsbury’s Bridgemead store from 9am to 7pm this Saturday and Sunday.

Collections will also see charity buckets taken around the County Ground before Swindon Town’s match against Bristol Rovers from 11am to 1pm this Saturday.

A curry night at the Bombay Lounge in Peatmoor has been organised for Monday, March 8.

All the profits from bookings and takeaways will go to the charity.
