POLICE are continuing to investigate how a pedestrian was fatally struck by a recovery vehicle on the M4 near Swindon.
The incident happened just after 5am on Sunday near junction 15 of the westbound carriageway.
A Mitsubishi AA van was in collision with the 36-year-old man who had walked onto the motorway from the nearside bank.
The man, from Twickenham in south west London, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokesman said officers found the victim’s vehicle in a remote location near Chiseldon, about a mile from where the accident happened.
He said there was no connection between the recovery vehicle and the accident victim.
Police are still waiting to confirm the man’s identity, which should be released later in the week.
The spokesman said: “Enquiries are still ongoing as to what happened.”
Witnesses to the accident are asked to call PC 1484 Robert Eccleston on 0845 408 7000.
