Dad follows son into boxing ring

THE father of wheelchair fund teenager Charlie Dawson will be taking to the boxing ring to give something back to the club that helped his son.

Kev Dawson of Manor Crescent, in Rodbourne Cheney will be pulling on his gloves for Neilson Promotions semi-pro event on April 3.

Some of the money made at the event will go to the continued upkeep of his son’s Formula One-designed wheelchair.

Charlie, 14, has the muscular disorder paroxysmol non kinesogenic choreoathetosis – a condition that often leaves him too exhausted to walk.

Young Charlie made the front page of the Adver at Christmas after the success of a two-month campaign raise £3,600 for the state-of-the-art chair.

Ex-heavyweight Eddie Neilson took Charlie into his heart, arranging for the youngster to visit the Purton gym to work on his upperbody strength to enable him to use his chair to its full potential.

“In the end I spent so much time up there with Charlie, I started working out myself,” said Kev, 48.

“Now I am training all the time and watching what I eat. It has had a great impact on me actually and I really enjoy it.”

Eddie said: “Kev is working all hours to train for this and he’s come on in leaps and bounds. I think he’ll really shine in the ring.”

Fight night starts at 5pm at Liquid Nightclub with the first bout at 5.30pm. Tickets are £20 and are available from Aligra Personnel, 4 Commercial Road, Swin City in Morely Street, or on the door. To donate to Charlie's wheelchair fund call Jackie Dawson 07545 880857.
