SWINDON Local Involvement Network is looking for three more people to join its steering group. The LINk was set up in order to involve Swindon residents in influencing how health and adult social care services are planned and provided in the town. It is financed by the department of health and Voluntary Action Swindon is contracted by Swindon Council to support and develop it. The VAS team works with a voluntary steering group of about 12 who make sure the LINk fulfils its brief. Steering group chairwoman Val Vaughan said: “It’s a lot like being a trustee of a charitable organisation except that the Network is not ‘an organisation’ as such, so the formal responsibilities and liabilities are much less onerous. “ Jo Osorio, of the VAS LINk team, said: “Steering group members need to have a strategic view and understanding of health and social care matters and be willing to exercise leadership. “We are very lucky to have a group with immense experience but we now need three more members.”
The steering group meets monthly with other opportunities for involvement in between. Details of the voluntary role are available from the LINk team at Voluntary Action Swindon. Email enquiries@swindonlink.org or write to 1 John Street, Swindon SN1 1RT, or call 01793 497777.
Anyone local can register their interest to be a LINk participant and then their involvement can be as much or as little as they choose. The Network is made up of about 2,000 people and organisations.
