NHS Wiltshire is a better place to work than this time last year, according to an annual survey.
Nearly two-thirds of NHS Wiltshire staff responded to the survey carried out in autumn 2009 – well above the national response rate of 55 per cent.
The responses came both from staff working in frontline health services and those at headquarters and were analysed by an independent company.
Key findings include 79 per cent of those responding to the survey saying they feel valued by their colleagues, while 82 per cent had an appraisal in previous 12 months – up from 72 per cent in previous year’s survey, and significantly higher than the national average. All reported increased satisfaction in their jobs.

.
Which means more than 1 in 5 employees (of the 'nearly' 2 out of 3 who expressed an opinion) don't feel valued by their colleagues.
.
"while 82 per cent had an appraisal in previous 12 months"
.
So almost 1 in 5 employees (of the 'nearly' 2 out of 3 who took part in the survey) did not have an annual performance appraisal.
.
"All reported increased satisfaction in their jobs"
.
Nearly 2 in 3 reported increased satisfaction. More than 1 in 3 did not express an opinion at all.
.
"NHS better place to work, say some staff." would be a more accurate headline. As would
"More than 1 in 3 NHS staff did not take part in survey" together with some investigative journalism as to why... were they too busy, too knackered, too apathetic? Were the questions written only in English and how would that skew the results?
Perhaps the Adver could run another survey, asking why the more than 1 in 3 failed to take part in last year's engagement survey...
