Win in Swindon and we will win election, say Tories

IF Swindon does not vote Tory, David Cameron will never get into 10 Downing Street.

That is according to the Conservative party chairman Eric Pickles, who made a visit to the town yesterday to launch the local group’s manifesto and to rouse his troops.

Addressing the Swindon Conservative group he said: “You have got to win here – if you don’t then David Cameron does not win – so no pressure.

“We have seen what can be done as a council, and now it is time for our extremely good candidates to get into place and bring some honesty, decency and straightforwardness into government.

“Swindon is going to be the centre of the battle ground.

“It is the centre of the campaign and if Swindon does not turn blue then David Cameron does not get to walk into Number 10.”

As well as launching the Swindon group’s manifesto, Mr Pickles was on hand to kick start the campaigns of the party’s two general election candidates – Robert Buckland for the South Swindon seat and councillor Justin Tomlinson for the North Swindon seat.

The manifesto for Swindon outlines the group’s success in areas such as council tax, regeneration, housing and development, social care, schools and communities.

It also illustrates what work they would do in terms of housing, business, health and the environment.

Coun Tomlinson said: “This is an extremely positive manifesto.

“We have turned Swindon Council from being joint worst in the country to a three-star authority.

“There is still much to do and I will always do so with integrity and enthusiasm.”

Mr Buckland said: “Trust in politicians has nose-dived recently, but I can promise a fresh start.

“I will work hard for everybody in our community, putting residents first in everything I do.”

'The manifesto for Swindon outlines the group’s success in areas such as council tax, regeneration, housing and development, social care, schools and communities.'

The candidates talk about trust and integrity I would suggest a good few residents would suggest the statement above could very well be construed as 'porkies'.

With social clubs, specialist care facilities closing, double dealing on disability provisions and a Vacant Lot that is Swindon Town centre it's hard to imagine the 'success' that is spoken of.

Just like the Council and their Wifi project then.

All the fiddles, cons and cheating going on in the Labour government make Bluh's exploits pale into insignificance.

For their sakes I hope someone told them to ditch the whole WiFi scheme, it's just waiting to explode.

A month in politics is a long time... the General Election will probably take place in month and half.
-
As we've seen, our Labour MP's are starting to make a noise about it and the Tories will need ear plugs soon as it'll get louder.

Keep an eye on www.talkswindon.org for all the important news the Adver is too weak to cover. This wi-fi controversy is massive and could bring down the Tories in Swindon.

I hope.

I think the WiFi is just the tip of the iceberg of SBC's financial maladministration.

One thing has to be said of course is that they have got some scape goats in place to take the fall.

There needs to be a thorough investigation by the National Audit Office, sooner rather than later.

The continual revelations both local and nationally is making UKPLC a laughing stock in the world, and making it easier for the EU to justify taking over our core business and enterprise.

I watch with interest whether 'call me Dave' Cameron has any spark on ingenuity but has not. He follows the 'news of the day', and then 'knee-jerks' just like Tony Blair and Labour did.

The lobbygate affair is one such example. The LibDems in an emergency debate Monday called for a full disclosure of all 'communication', involving Mandy and Lord Adonis.

What did Cameron do Tuesday morning, call for full disclosure.

Cameron, Brown or Clegg, or of course a man with more business and political experience than all of them put together Lord Pearson of Rannoch.

He is who he is and doesn't hide his background like the other leaders do, and above all else he cares about Britain.

PLEASE READ!
We have Mr Bluh and a tory led council and Swindon is a misery, do we really want this to a nationwide disaster?
If anyone has any common sense left in them, please think twice about voting conservative!
If anything, this is just a PR job using the same policy of fear to make us vote for the Plague rather than the Cholera
Dont you all wonder why if Swindon is so central to Cameron he never set a foot in Swindon?
Tories are arrogant and look down on us, we are not stupid please think twice before giving these multimillionaires your vote!

All politicians are a bent as a 2 bob note.
.
It wont matter who gets in. We'll still have this recession for another 5 years minimum.
.
As a side note, IIRC, the Tories would want to put a hold on the production of the Navy's new Queen Elizabeth Class (CVF) aircraft carriers!
I'm personally against any such move from any political party.
The equipment for all the forces needs to be upgraded and renewed. We dont need to look back at the stories in the news from soldiers buying their own kit..
.
You cannot be expected to have a homeland defence with aging equipment.

Disco, as you may well know from reading these threads my son is RN. It is odd you mention the Carriers because we discussed them a week or so ago.

Those serving are pretty certain under the Tories they won't go ahead, but they are also mindful of the fact that at this time they couldn't man them anyway.

It seems Labours dumbing down in the services has now resulted in totally insufficient numbers of senior rates, PO's and many of the specialist roles required to man such technologically advanced vessels.

More and more specialists are doing back to back tours, and the morale is pretty dam low. Someone with my sons specialisation can earn 4 times what he earns as a PO in civvie street even now.

politicrat, to be fair Cameron has been to Swindon twice in the last 12 months. Once to do a Public QT (although how public it was is debateable) and previously to get attacked at the railway station.

Is this HMG respecting their covenant to our Troops abroad.

Soldiers’ votes may not be counted

Armed Forces personnel in Afghanistan may not be able to vote in the General Election, a minister has admitted. (Daily Telegraph. P.12)

Michael Wills, the justice minister in charge of the electoral system, said there was ‘no guarantee’ that votes cast by soldiers serving on the front line would be counted.

Britain has 10,000 military personnel in Afghanistan, many of whom have registered for postal votes for the election, expected on May 6. However Army commanders have privately raised concerns that the postal service is unreliable.

Asked in the commons, if he could give an assurance that all postal votes sent from Afghanistan would be counted, Mr Willis said that a new system would be ‘a significant improvement’ on previous elections. But he admitted: “I can’t guarantee that every one will be able to be counted.”

What UKIP say:

“These brave men and women are putting their lives on line, often paying the ultimate price for our country, the least we can do is make sure their votes get counted.

“The minister says there is a new system – why did they design a new system that doesn’t fix the problem?

“Perhaps with news of the defence cuts proposed by all parties except UKIP, the current politicians are rightly worried service personnel wont back them at the ballot box.”

Bob, agreed, they may not be able to man these carriers right away which brings me to another point i would like to see debated in parliament. Perhaps old fashioned, however, compulsory service in the forces for young people would not be a bad idea.
I know there are some flaws in this and the Human Rights bandwagon could troll through these boards again but think about it. The forces teach young men and women respect and a sense of self-worth...
It could well end up making our streets a much better place.
.
I certainly hope to be serving on one of the state of the art carriers in several years time, provided they go ahead.

Disco20, you sound like a young person who would probably not need to be conscripted. I agree totally that conscription could very well be a problem to anti social behaviour or crime, as I prefer. As for Human Rights legislation, UKIP have stated we would abolish it in favour of Human Responsibility. We believe that no one's righters supercede's anyone elses.

On a more serious note.

Whilst the economy is up *hit creek without a paddle, the main protagonists are asking for you to vote for them again (remember it was not their fault but a global situation). Ask yourself this. If your mate asked to borrow £1000 off you with the promise to pay you back in say, a year and they were sacked from their job because they were incompetent (wasn't his fault eithe) would you then lend them another £1000 whilst they had no chance of paying that or the original £1000 back?

You'd say "I might be cabbage looking but I'm not that green!" Well vote Labour and you'd seriously be that green. They inherited the BEST set of economic figures any incoming government has ever since records began going back centuries!!! They like your best friend who borrowed your £1000 mucked it up with a capitol F and are in effect asking you to lend them another £1000, tell me you'd lend your friend another £1000 I dare you.

As for Lord Ashcroft, it's a smoke screen, ALL major parties have non doms feeding them cash. The Labour lot are in the pockets of the unions too and as they are broke they would have gone under if it had not been for the likes of Unite to bail them out. Tell me the unions will not ask for something big in return big time if Labour get back in.

Whilst I'm at it, it is not just the economy that's wrong with UK plc. Take a look at the front page of today's Adver WRT the person who had no right to be here who assaulted a local man causing him permanent damage to his eye. If this shower of excrement had done their duty in protecting our borders this violent criminal would not have been here to cause such acts.

I could go on but I'm supposed to be working to pay for all those who don't for one reason or another and it's 10pm

Makes my blood boil.

and you are right to be.
Most people do not seem to realise that what is wrong with UK plc isn't a question of political parties (LibLabCon), as we have seen they are all corrupt and filling their pockets at the expenses of the hard working people like you and me, what is fundamentally wrong is the system that he have were Westminster and our local council can interfere in our lives, with total impunity. We need the power to be handed down to us again, representation isn;t working for us, we need more direct democracy with locally elected mayor to counterbalance the almighty influence of the council assembly.
We need MPs to be made directly accountable to us and not the Queen, they should be recalled by us and their expenses should be means tested like we are! no pensions etc... for multimillionaires, paid by working class people this is an insult.
We need the Queen to stand down and have her powers transferred to a second elected Senate.
We are the people and we should be at the centre of the Democracy, not the Queen, not the Royals, not the MPs and certainly not the ones able to pay for influcence: Unions etc...
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

The country cannot sustain the current political system, Labour or conservative wont make a difference, both are the same corrupt politicians.
We need a new party to change all this and had back power to voters: referendums, elected mayors & sheriffs, recall of MPs!
We need to scale down the almighty influence of Westminster and 10 downing street.
The Queen must stand down and we must have a second fully elected senate.
Anything short of the above, will just not do for a 21st century World
