Concern at plan to build 210 homes

A MEETING to discuss objections to proposals to build 210 new homes between Grange Park and Lydiard Country Park attracted almost 100 people.

Primegate Properties (Hooknorth) Ltd has applied to Swindon Council to build 210 houses with associated open space and landscaping on a green field between Grange Park and Hook Street.

About 100 people living close to the site, along with representatives from the all political parties, attended a meeting on Thursday in Freshbrook Church to discuss how to object to the proposal.

South Swindon MP Anne Snelgrove told residents that she supported their objections.

She said: “It’s pleasing that representatives from all parties are working together to send a clear message to the developers that building on this field is inappropriate.

“The key point is that it falls outside the existing defined settlement boundary for Swindon in the plan up to 2011 and residents need to state clear objections now.”

It will go ahead, however many people turn up. Look at the the new proposals for the North Swindon, makes no odds how many people turn out to these meetings.
The front garden sham is a prime example

I guess we can now wait, for a codenamed councillor / developer, to come on this site, to tell us why this will be great for Swindon?

I thought is was why it would be good for the Councillors who usually have their fingers in all these pies. I wonder who will really benefit from this one???

I really cannot see what is wrong with this proposal. This site will deliver housing in Swindon which is needed.

THE South West RSS identified various strategic land sites (eg East Development Area, The Hyde, Tadpole Farm), housing numbers for inner Swindon and also that 50 dwellings a year where to be built over the RSS 20 year period on sites such as this field. The RSS panel was three very well qualified planning inspectors and at no time did Swindon BC protest against this allocation.

This field is not within Lydiard Park there is a clear bank of trees in the park which will hide the development. As someone who loves the countryside I cannot see that there is any landscape merit within this field which needs retaining. After all Swindon was only a village at one time so everyones house was built on a farm field

Swindon's biggest problem is that it wants every house to look the same. At least this developer has thought about the plans and tried to develop something which is yet another Wimpey Estate. Many business people in Swindon do not live in Swindon as the housing available for them to buy does not match what they can find in the Cirencester, Cotswold Villages, Malmesbury, Marlborough or the downland villages. At least this developer is thinking of attracting these buinessmen and at same time building affordable houses.

This site is walking distance from the Freshbrook Village Centre and various schools.

On a walk last Sunday I actually went to Lydiard Park to see if this development can be seen from within the park whilst there were no leaves on the trees. I can tell everyone it will not. The developer has actually kept an area close to the west of the development free from anything other the landscaping again this shows at least this house builder is thinking.

Walking the footpath to the west of the land. The only animal I saw was a domestic cat. The land is surrounded by housing on two sides, an urban park on the third side and on part of the fourth Windmill Employment park

I truely believe that the silent majority have no issue at all with this development. Hopefully Swindon BC's planners will agree. What we do not want is the NIMBYs stopping yet another good development for Swindon.

Swindon would have a University if it were not for these do gooders, and as a buiness person we need good employees.
