TWO hopefuls vying for the title of Miss Swindon cleaned the town’s cars as part of a charity drive.
Friends Emma Dickson, of Woodhall Park, north Swindon, and Gemma Louise Ferguson, from Covingham, both 21, were at the Gold Finger Tavern pub, in Newburgh Place, Highworth, on Sunday offering to wash cars.
They raised £140 each which will go towards the Variety Club, this year’s chosen charity, for which funds are being raised by all Miss England regional entrants as part of the contest.
The Variety Club helps sick, disabled and disadvantaged children throughout the UK.
Voting and fundraising will continue until the voting closing date and final decision on May 9.
Emma said: “I feel like being in this competition has given me a lot more opportunities. Every penny helps at the end of the day and it’s going to kids who need it, so it’s a good cause.”
The contestant who earns the most for the Variety Club wins the Miss Charity title, and the friends decided to work together to try and raise as much money as they could.
They wanted to do something different and targeted the pubs’ punters and their own friends, charging £5 a car.
Emma added: “We’re wishing each other the best of luck, there’s no rivalry.”
