Care home brews up to help abuse charity

RESIDENTS at a Swindon care home held a coffee morning to raise money for an elderly abuse charity.

A collection of pictures and puzzles, donated to the Churchview Care Home, in Stratton, were put on sale and residents and their families were invited to attend.

The care home, which houses 37 residents, holds regular coffee mornings with the funds usually going to the residents’ fund.

But this time it was decided to donate the £50 raised by the event to Action on Elder Abuse – a charity which deals with various types of abuse of elderly people.

Jo Butler, Churchview Care Home manager, said: “We had a whole house full really, with neighbours coming in as well. We have just accumulated lots of pictures, some really nice ones and there are lots of puzzles too so we did a bring and buy sale.

“The residents love it because they get the chance to socialise. We suggested we give the money to the charity because it is Action on Elder Abuse week and they all agreed.”
