DRINKERS packed Old Town’s newest pub The Pig on The Hill to celebrate its official launch.

Formerly known as The Pipers Arms, the pub opened a month ago but managers wanted it to establish itself before the formal launch on Saturday.

The Devizes Road pub has already tasted success in its first four weeks with business brisk over the World Cup and early summer period.

“We’ve done well so far and we’re learning what works and what doesn’t at this venue,” said operations manager Dan O’Connell, 34.

“I’ve had a hand in opening quite a few venues in Swindon like The Spot and The Savoy so to be able to use my experience there to then open my own venue has been great, not to mention the freedom you get by not being attached to a specific brewery.”

The Pig on The Hill specialises in real ale from Doom Bar to Tunnel Vision, from Wiltshire-based Box Steam Brewery, and Dan says its menu will change with the tastes of the customers.
