A ONE-legged budgie is looking for a new home after being rescued by the RSPCA.
The blue and white bird was handed in to Shaw Veterinary Centre on Monday by members of the animal welfare charity.
The budgie, which has not been named, is now receiving care and is recovering well from its injuries.
Veterinary nurse Anita Pile said: “He’s doing really well – since he has been in here he’s been using the perch and had a good rest.
“He has only got one leg and we are assuming he lost it recently because his other leg is in good condition.
“It looked like another bird picked on him and he was a little bit tired. We got him some food and we will keep him for a week and then try and find him a new home.
“He’s very tame and doesn’t mind being handled. We would appeal for the owners to come forward. We can only keep him here a week and if no-one has come for him by then we will look for another home for him.”
If you believe the budgie belongs to you, or would be interested in giving him a home if the owners can not be traced, call the surgery on 01793 881919.
