RESIDENTS from Blunsdon have joined forces with a local company to make sure visitors have a warm welcome to the village.
The people teamed up with members of the Hills Group on Sunday and worked around the clock to create a landscaped garden at the entrance to Blunsdon, facing the intersection with the A419.
Steve Mead, telesales co-ordinator for Hills Quarry Products, arranged for the group to donate Warrior compost and gravel to the project, and spent the day on site assisting with the planning and planting.
“We have regular liaison meetings with local parish councillors and they expressed a wish to create an attractive garden entrance to Blunsdon now that the A419 road works are complete,” said Hills group director Mike Webster.
“This was the perfect opportunity for Hills to get involved and provide some help.”
Residents, members of the parish council and Blunsdon Gardening Club, all took part in the event despite the downpours, as part of this year’s Royal Horticultural Society Dig Together Day, aimed at celebrating the work of the UK’s gardening clubs and horticultural societies.
The garden was designed by Lou Johnson, a member of the Blunsdon Gardening Club, and has been created around the three huge stones already placed on the site to provide a welcoming gateway.
The Hills Group is celebrating its 110th anniversary this year.
