Jewel In The Crown serves up a winning curry

A RESTAURANT in the town has curried favour with a panel of top judges to be named as the UK’s crown jewel of Indian cuisine.
The Jewel In The Crown, in Victoria Road, took the title of Best South Asian Restaurant in the Newbury Teas Tiffin Cup after being judged by a panel of top TV personalities, including Ainsley Harriott, Lisa Faulkner and Hardeep Singh Kohli.
The competition consisted of 74 restaurants, nominated by MPs in their respective areas across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
The Jewel In The Crown, which was set up by owner Muzammil Ali in 1987, was nominated by Swindon South MP Robert Buckland and made it to the grand final at the House of Commons.
The 11 finalists had one hour to cook their dish and contestants had serve it to the panel of ten judges in ten minute intervals.
The winning curry presented by the Jewel, named the Tiffin Cup Chef’s Special, was a seasonal lamb and pumpkin dish inspired by Mr Ali’s daughter Juliana’s childhood memories.
She said: “I suggested using the pumpkin because my mother used to cook this dish when I was younger, so it brought back childhood memories for me. It’s a real winter warmer.
“We went for lamb and Indian pumpkin because it really has that balance of sweet and earthy tastes. All the produce we used is grown locally too. The pumpkin was grown at Roves Farm.”
Miss Ali, who is the manager of the restaurant, said taking the title was a great feeling.
“On the day everybody was nervous but we had a great time.
“There was a really good atmosphere because we were surrounded by all these great chefs. It was a great team effort by everyone.
“It was amazing that we’ve won and we are still quite shocked. We are so proud that we have put Swindon on the map.”
Robert Buckland said: “I am absolutely delighted that Jewel In The Crown has beaten no less than 73 other contenders to win the title.
“Once again, Swindon has shown what it is capable on the national stage. The evening was rather nerve-wracking for the Swindon delegation, but the team of celebrity judges led by Ainsley Harriott made the right choice.”

Oh what a cynical fool you are at times. Clearly you cannot read what i wrote last time this came up. I eat regularly there and the food is very good. As i have known the owner and most of the staff for many years i am very pleased they won this award. My only remark on the last post was that the majority of staff are pakistani as is the owner. The chefs specialise in regional foods and are as close to original as possible. Regardless--in my opinion it is possibly the best local restaurant for asian cuisine--others of course will have their preferences.

Clearly you did not keep track of that post--as usual you make inaccurate assumptions as to why it was removed. In fact i was shocked at a subsequent post which was malicious in the extreme and reported it--the only occasion i have done so. Do try to get your facts right as you are not very good at assumptions.

Is that a fact? Messy, you have often made remarks, often removed, specifically intended to stirr up racial and ethnic hatred and suspicion particularly aimed at restaurants and fast-food outlets in the Old Town area. You have made the claim that workers in these establishments are in some way defrauding you and your family out of a job and are circumventing the tax system.
Well so what. If I go into an indian restaurant I *want* to be served by people who look Asian and can't speak english particularly well, even if aren't paying full tax. I do *not* want to be served by BNP supporting idiots like you. Got it now?
If you have a problem with that I suggest you continue to use Pizza Hut on the rare occasion you do go out.

What a truly despicable person you are with your totally false claims. As far as i am aware i have never made any comment designed to stir up racial hatred.My opinion as to the very controversial matter of Goan immigrants who are mainly from India with no natural right to an EU passport as they are Indian citizens and simply travel to Potuguese territorial Goa in order to gain an EU passport and register here with rogue agencies who supply labour to local companies. I have laid the evidence before the correct govt minister. Fact--they target the UK as we have a generous welfare system and the agencies guarantee them jobs. I do not have any prejudice towards any legally entitled immigrants of any colour or creed. Your claim as to my supporting BNP i consider to be malicious in the extreme--i have never and never would support any of their policies.
As far as racist comments about other old town restaurants again you have no just cause to make such a claim--likewise regarding takeaways -- if i see something of concern such as food storage in unsuitable premises--dirty premises--or workers sleeping in food kitchens i will and have reported it.
You are the one who has criticised our street traders saying they use dirty smelly oils etc--purely because it does not suit you. Most are from respectable italian families with high hygiene standards with the correct hygiene standards certificates. Families that have traded here for more years than i remember.
Finally do not make assumptions as to my lifestyle or eating habits as you have no idea whatsoever of my movements. You really are a sad specimen

Again i will remind you your comments are malicious and entirely unfounded. You attack others with deluded and inane comments making assumptions that are manifestly flawed with no resemblance to the truth of the issue. Unfortunately you do have a habit of reading something that is not there. The big clue being i stand by what i said in that post which was in no way racist or inflammatory and factually correct. There was no suggestion by me that any employees do not speak english--or any tax avoidance issues which suggests you read the posts after mine which made no comment as to anything i said.

A few weeks later you did the same thing and I complained again. Once again, the adver promptly removed it.
Since then you do seem to have curbed your enthusiasm for posting deliberately inflammatory and offensive opinions. I don't suppose for one second that you have changed those views but the next time you post similar items I hope you will be banned.

I suggest you give the dates those claimed instances as i most certainly am not racist and you have no justification for levelling such allegations against me--you are clearly the most malicious person on here as you persistently attack numerous people on here without just cause.
I will voice my opinion on any subject and should you repeat your malicious allegations--i will most certainly report the matter for investigation by the adver.

Any claim i made is fact--you very clearly cannot distinguish the difference between fact and your deluded opinion as to what or who is racist. For example there is a very racial post going on for days here--yet you have levelled no accusations to any of the posters. These attacks on me and others arise quite simply because you cannot accept fact--you even attacked a girl with learning difficultes--your trademark is coming on site merely to attack others rather than make comments on the articles. If you believe i have made comments that incite racial hatred i strongly suggest you ask the police to fully investigate--as you rightly say it is a criminal offence. So is wasting police time.

You really do not have a clue and you are so transparent--it is not that difficult to see that you still post under other logins. Nothing pious at all about my post as clearly you do not know what it means. Same with righteous as it depends on definition. No--i give an opinion and if possible backed by fact. It is not my problem that some folk misrepresent what i say and for unknown reasons make absurd claims. Having re-read the whole comments to the point it was removed,i was about to reply to another comment and saved the file before the post was pulled-easy enough to retrieve had i not saved anyway--you would know that from your self proclaimed expertise on coms. If you had actually read the post concerned and another related one you would have noticed i was full of praise for the girl and suggested she could achieve her aims.
Do read what is written and not what you choose to mislead folk as to what is not written. You are very selective in your visious attacks for reasons that are not clear--possibly because you actually lead a miserable life as you persistently complain of the most stupid things and cannot accept others views as you think others should accept yours--you cannot accept facts-now you claim to be the self appointed moderator on this site claiming to have had posts removed--how fascile you are--you do not seem to know what goes on around you as you live in your tiny little world that only exists in your warped mind.
