PUNK legends Buzzcocks will be mashing it up at the MECA later this year.

The group, who shot to fame in the late 70s and enjoyed success with the widely covered Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve), will take to the stage on April 29.

The group behind other classics such as Orgasm Addict and What Do I Get? are set to be a huge hit with fans in the town and MECA owner Steve Causer is delighted to have secured the four-piece legends “It’s going to be a really good night,” he said.

“Buzzcocks don’t normally do gigs throughout the year, they tend to do festivals instead, so to have them here in Swindon is going to be amazing.

“The old punk scene is big in this area of the country and they are one of those renowned bands, one of the big ones of their era.

“The feedback we have had so far has been really positive.”

MECA in Regent Circus was transformed at the end of last year by GVS Consortium, led by Steve.

The building was formerly the Mecca bingo hall, with the new name – standing for Music, Entertainment, Cultural Arena – paying homage to its past.

It opened in December with a boxing night, but has only hosted two music acts so far – drum and bass DJs Chase and Status and chart sensation Example.

But Steve said he is pleased with the progress the team has made and is looking forward to revealing a host of acts set to appear on stage later this year.

“So far I think everything has gone really well,” he said.

“What we have always said is people’s expectations of what they want is going to be higher, but we are taking steps forward.

“We have got a lot of acts bubbling away and although we can’t reveal names at the moment, there are some Brit award winners involved.

“The highlight for me so far has been the work that has gone on behind the scenes, while it has been great to have the events we’ve had, the little team working away in the background has been brilliant.

“This week we have had a lot of offers come in and we’ve put a lot of offers out there, the production house has been overflowing and it has been win, win, win for us, soon we will be able to start announcing some more big names.”
