FIRE crews tackled a blaze in part of the roof of the historic Mechanics’ Institute this morning.
The fire was spotted by 17-year-old Peter Bishop, of Cheney Manor, who called 999 at 10.44am.
Crews from Swindon, Stratton and Westlea fire stations attended.
The blaze was quickly extinguished and crews cut away the roof to check there were no burning embers.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
