POLICE have positively identified the second woman in the Sian O’Callaghan murder investigation.
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police last night confirmed that they have been able to identify the female victim using the DNA found in the bones found buried in a field in Eastleach on March 24.
He said: “We are able to confirm that positive identification has now taken place in relation to the remains discovered in Eastleach.
“Work is on-going to inform the next of kin and immediate family members and as such I’m sure you will appreciate that we are unable to confirm identification at this stage.
“Further information will be released when possible.”
Police were taken to the field by Christopher Halliwell, 47, of Ashbury Avenue, Nythe, who is currently in custody having been charged with the murder of 22-year-old Sian.
He will appear via video-link this Friday at Bristol Crown Court where he may indicate his plea.
Originally, forensic officers said the human remains were those of a woman aged between 23 - 30 who was abducted from the Swindon area between 2003 and 2005.
