SWINDON Town Football Club may have been struggling this season, but there is one soccer club in town worth raving about.

The Swindon Leopards is a football team for adults with a learning disability which was started two years ago by Donna Huff.

“Donna has created and sustained this club,” explained Ben Humphrey, a sports development officer with Swindon Council.

“The sporting, health and social outcomes have been an inspiration. It takes people like Donna to make these wonderful things to happen. For too long, disability has been seen as a good deed; however to organise and co-ordinate a club like the Leopards takes a long-term commitment.”

Ben said that the club had given the footballers an identity and something positive in their lives to belong to.

The Leopards compete in the Wiltshire and Dorset Ability Counts League and last year just failed to reach the national final by a single goal.

Donna now runs two teams which are doing well and there are hopes of a national final appearance this season.

They are put through their paces every Tuesday evening at the new Futsal Arena in Kembrey Park.
