A ROCK band put on a special gig to raise funds for Swindon Samaritans.

Angel Up Front, who are a rock covers band from Bristol, were supported by Ripslide, from Basingstoke, when they performed at The Furnace, in Commercial Road on Friday.

The gig was staged to raise money for the local branch of the Samaritans who have their offices just round the corner in Curtis Street.

The event was organised by Kate Linnegar, who joined Swindon Samaritans as a listening volunteer, last year.

Branch director Paul Bentley said: “It was a brilliant night, there was a great atmosphere and some brilliant musicians.

“We aren’t sure how much money was raised yet, but in terms of awareness raising and getting the name of the Samaritans out there to a different audience, it was very successful.”

The Furnace offered the venue free of charge and the bands also appeared for free, so all the money will go to the local Samaritans.
