BRIGHT pupils at Churchfields School have scored top grades in their science exams a whole year early.

Six clever year 10 students achieved A*s in their GCSE biology and physics exams which they took in January alongside more than 80 other year 10 students.

It is the first year the students have been entered a year early and they still have two further exams to take in both subjects in the summer.

Headteacher Steve Flavin said: “I am absolutely thrilled.

“It just shows the high quality of science teaching because it is one of our specialist subjects.

“These are the top performing students and it is more than likely that these students will go on to study A-levels and then go on to major universities.

“It is absolutely fantastic for the students and fantastic for the staff who have spent all that time preparing them for these important exams.”

Nargis Sultana, Saroj Rana, Phil Relton, Syed Rizvi, Arun Parmar and Aedan Mansfield all triumphed in the exams and three of them achieved perfect 100 per cent scores.

Aedan, 15, said: “I came out of the exam unconfident, it was harder than I expected but obviously I had done well.

“I was really chuffed when I found out the results.”

Arun, 14, said: “My teacher, Mr Green, prepared us well. We had done a lot of practice with past papers so the exam paper was nothing new.

“I thought I had done well but I didn’t want to jinx it.”

James Maher, the director of science, said many children did better than the school had predicted.

“I am proud of the teachers and students and how well they did,” he said.

The school performed better than ever in last year’s league tables with 100 per cent of students achieving at least one GCSE.
