Meeting on climate is a success

MORE than 120 people attended a meeting about climate change in Swindon.

The audience was at the Pilgrim Centre and on the panel were Swindon's Labour MPs Anne Snelgrove and Michael Wills, and the town's Conservative council leader Roderick Bluh.

The evening was organised by Swindon Climate Change Network as an opportunity for people to find out what is being done about it locally.

Andy Parsons, from Swindon Climate Action Network, who organised the event, said: "I was extremely pleased by how the evening went.

"The turnout clearly shows that the people of Swindon are concerned about climate change and are demanding that action is taken to address the issue in all aspects of our lives."

Also on the panel were environmental author and campaigner Mark Lynas, and Prof Julia Slingo of the National Centre for Atmospheric Research, which is funded by the Swindon-based Natural Environment Research Council.

She called for the best scientific brains to be dedicated to understanding climate and of ways of preventing catastrophic changes.
