Firstly before we look at recent results and performances of the team, a quick thought on the genius of Paolo Di Canio.

When Alan McCormack put away Town’s 2nd goal at Northampton it was the perfect way to end a poor year, also it was brilliant to see our manager just get lost in the emotion of the goal and run down the pitch to celebrate with his players and the fans.

Di Canio showed how important that goal was for our season, only taking a point away from Northampton would have been a backwards step and having a character like Di Canio as the manager makes those moments even more enjoyable as a fan.

After the win last Saturday Town again took all three points at home against a very poor Wimbledon side to move us into 4th in League Two and only 3 points behind 3rd.

Alan Connell started the game and fully deserved his place after his brilliant goal in the previous game, and his selection was proven to be the right one after he scored his sixth goal in as many starts for this season.

The game also saw the return of Callum Kennedy to the starting eleven at the County Ground with Liam Ridehaigh returning to Huddersfield Town.

Even though Wimbledon were poor their winger on the right hand side Brendan Kiernan had a good game and Callum did a good job marking him throughout the game.

After being at the club for four years and being patience for his first team chance I hope he’ll make the left back spot his own.

Now that Christmas is over its time for the January transfer window to open and lots of speculation to start around the media regarding players in and out.

Wes Foderingham should of by now completed his permanent move to the club, which is great news for the clubs short and long term future.

Also Leon Clarke has signed for Charlton Athletic in a swap deal that saw the impressive League Two goalscorer Paul Benson signing for Town, a month after a loan move collapsed.

After scoring 70 goals in just over 170 games for Dag & Red Paul Benson brings the needed experience to the first team, something that will be key moving into the last few months of the season.

He made an impressive debut last Monday making some good runs to get in goalscoring positions but after a frustrating time at Charlton resulting in no football in the last three months he might take a few weeks to find his goalscoring touch once again.

After two impressive league wins Town’s attentions turn to cup competitions with huge games in the F.A Cup and Johnstones Paint Trophy.

This Saturday Premier League side Wigan Athletic travels down to the County Ground to play Town at a near sell out County Ground.

After Wigan picked up some impressive points against Liverpool and Chelsea they have gone on a backwards slide once again, with the clubs Premier League survival more important to them i'm sure they will rest some key players.

It’ll be eleven years to the day when Town last took on a Premier League side at home in the F.A Cup when Coventry City visited Swindon and went away with a 2-0 win.

But that same season the Sky Blues got relegated from the Premier League, probably a look into the future for our opponents on Saturday.

This sort of occasion doesn’t come along very often for Swindon so I hope the fans and players make it a day to remember and we can add our name into the 4th round draw.

Next Tuesday we visit Underhill to play Barnet in the 1st Leg of the area final in the JPT.

After a poor start to the season the Bee’s have had a recent revival with former MK Dons & Charlton striker Izale McLeod playing a huge part with 19 goals this season.

But with Town having the much better team overall and in good form as well we should be too strong for Barnet over the 90 minutes and take a lead into the 2nd Leg.
