A RESTAURANT in Rodbourne has curried favour with judges after it was highly commended by the people who run the country.

The Curry Place, in Rodbourne Road, was recognised in The Tiffin Cup, an annual Parliamentary competition. Although it didn’t win the 2012 cup, it was highly commended.

The restaurant, which is in its 18th year, was nominated by North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson and yesterday he presented the owners with a chef’s jacket and certificate.

Mr Tomlinson said: “Each Member of Parliament is allowed to nominate their favourite restaurant within their constituency, and I was proud to nominate this restaurant – not just on behalf of myself, but on behalf of family, friends and councillors who often eat here and talk very highly of it.

“The Tiffin Cup is the most popular Parliamen-tary competition; it is with great pride that the Members of Parliament put forward their favourite places to eat.

“I try to spread myself around all the different restaurants on offer, but this is certainly one that is extremely popular with local residents.”

Beeteshoke De, assistant manager, said he was delighted to receive recognition.

“It is brilliant,” he said. “I think what makes us so popular is the hospitality and the welcome that we have given to people that have come here over the past 18 years, and they still come back.

“Obviously the food is so important, but at the same time the service is as important, and there is such a nice, warm atmosphere here.”

Mr De and Curry Place owner Mahmod Ali listed one of their speciality dishes as the khurze lamb, which is served on the bone and can to serve up to four people at a time.

The Curry Place is open from 5.30pm to 12.30am Monday to Thursday, 5.30pm to 1.30am Friday and Saturday, and midday to midnight on Sundays.
