Killer’s prison diary tells of lasting love

A DOUBLE axe killer has professed his continued love for the woman that he hacked to death, in bizarre entries to his prison diary.

Michael Kelly, 47, of Stratton, was jailed for a minimum of 30 years last April after he donned a horror mask and used a new axe to kill ex-lover Sally Cox and her 22-year-old son Martin Faulkner at their Banbury home.

He was arrested by officers at his home in Hatch Road just hours after the incident.

Entries and doodles made by Kelly in his prison cell, which include a depiction of her tombstone and a claim of empathy with her two daughters who managed to escape his ten-minute rampage, were printed in the Sun.

One, which appeared to be addressed to Miss Cox and dated February 10, 2011, reads: “Good morning, my darling. I hope you and Martin are being well looked after up there!

“They had better, otherwise they’ll have me to answer to.

“Joe Public haven’t the faintest clue about the real us. If they did, their hearts would have melted. I know that when we parted, all the angels in heaven wept unashamedly, much as they did the morning that you and Martin joined them up there.

“And me, I am still crying because of this.

“When you lose you love somebody that much, the loss is probably the most painful of experiences you could ever be put through.

“So I know exactly how the girls and the family must be feeling, because it’s still tearing me apart even now, 88 days after we parted.”

Reading the contents of Kelly’s diary in a national newspaper has sparked a furious reaction from Miss Cox’s family.

Her sister-in-law Yvonne Molson was with Miss Cox’s parents when she said: “It has left the whole family devastated, we wish it would all stop.Every time you think you can make one step forward and smile for a one day something like this pops up and you go 10 steps back.”

Miss Molson, who said she was upset that Kelly’s letters were given to a national newspaper, said the only news the family want to hear about him is his death.

She said: “He’s not sorry, he’s only he’s in prison.

“The way he starts off (the letter), it’s just sickening. He talks as if it wasn’t him.

“They (Martin and Sally) would be here today to celebrate the first birthday of my son if it wasn’t for him.”
