Swindon Advertiser readers are today being given the unique opportunity to run within the Olympic Park and cross the stadium finish line before any of our Olympians begin their warm up.

The ballot for 5,000 places to take part in The National Lottery Olympic Park Run, on March 31, 2012 closed at the end of October. The Swindon Advertiser has however managed to secure five places to give away to readers for this first public event in the magnificent Olympic Stadium.

Readers may nominate themselves or a friend, or family member can make the nomination stating why you deserve a place in the run. We will select the five most deserving winners who are entitled to take two guests with them to cheer them on.

This historic five-mile run, which celebrates the contribution of The National Lottery and its players to London 2012, is open to anyone aged 16 or over, of any running ability (certain exclusions apply, details can be found at http://nationallotteryrun.com).

The five-mile course is across the Olympic Park and offers access on a scale not yet experienced by the public.

The route will pass other iconic Olympic and Paralympic Games venues. The National Lottery has helped fund these venues where many elite athletes’ hopes and dreams for London 2012 medal success will be realised a few months later.

The run will end on the home straight in the spectacular Olympic Stadium. There will also be a host of former and current Olympic and Paralympic athletes and celebrity runners hoping to cross the finish line first.

All participants will receive a computer chip for accurate timing of their run, a souvenir finisher’s medal, on-course refreshments, branded t-shirt to run in and a finisher’s pack.

The National Lottery is contributing up to £2.2bn towards the funding of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including the venues and infrastructure where Britain’s athletes hope to fulfil their dreams.

Through mainstream funding, The National Lottery enables Britain’s elite competitors to train as full-time professionals and provides them with world-class support. From 2006 to 2013, the National Lottery is providing in excess of £310m to support more than 1,200 potential Team GB and Paralympics GB athletes as they prepare for London 2012 and beyond.
