Brewery donates royal ale for Jubilee party

James Arkell has donated Jubilee Ale for the celebrations at Queen’s Park this summer James Arkell has donated Jubilee Ale for the celebrations at Queen’s Park this summer

A JUBILEE party planned for Queen’s Park will toast the occasion in style after Arkell’s Brewery donated a firkin of specially-brewed beer.

Swindon’s oldest company has pledged around 40 litres of ale, which is being made especially for the monarch’s diamond celebrations this summer.

The late Sir Noel Arkell, who was a director of the family business, opened the beauty spot in 1953 during his time as the High Sheriff of Wiltshire.

Coun Stan Pajak, chairman of the Queen’s Park Community Council, said: “The donation means people will be able to celebrate with Jubilee Ale. It is fitting because Sir Noel Arkell opened the park as part of the coronation and there is a plaque bearing his name, together with the date May 30, 1953.

“We are very grateful for the donation.”

The brewery’s chairman James Arkell, Sir Noel’s grandson, made the donation after reading about the Queen’s Park festivities in the Adver.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to celebrate this wonderful event in this way.”

The donation follows Arkell’s long tradition of concocting Royal tipples.

The brewery made a one-off ale in 2006 to mark the Queen’s 80th birthday, delivering a crate to Buckingham Palace. A tipple was also brewed for the Queen Mother’s 100th birthday in 2000 and in 2002 a beer was launched to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.

Queen’s Park also has impressive Royal links. The name comes from a visit made by Princess Elizabeth in 1950, two years before she came to the throne.

Footage from British Pathe News shows her stepping off the Paddington to Swindon locomotive before opening the remembrance garden during her visit.

Thousands of people lined the streets and Union Jacks were draped from buildings as she was driven through the town.

The Nathan Jones Allstars Jazz Band is already booked for the event on July 22 and will mark the occasion with its own rendition of God Save The Queen.

The park will play host to the Queen’s Big Lunch, with people invited to tuck into Jubilee cakes and other treats at the community cafe, with picnics on the lawn.

Children and adults are encouraged to come in royal costumes, with prizes for the best dressed.

I'm sure James is very decent bloke but as he's a keen reader of the advert it's no wonder Robbo is such a sycophant towards him on here, to the point where he's their self-nominated spokesperson. How embarrasing for Arkells.

Nice gesture from him though.

I speak for myself and our relationship with the brewery, I cannot speak too highly of their professional approach to their tenants.

If you find showing an honest respect for said company as being sycophantic that says more about you than about me, or the company.

Arkells are at the forefront off many charity initiatives, much of which goes unreported.

I simply fail to understand the mentality of people who randomly attack the company which has employed tens of thousands of people, provided houses and much more, even supporting Swindon Town for many years, but that is another story.

Well I've never attacked the company at all, I just happen to think their/your beer is awful and that your overpraising of them is not only sycophantic but also just another excuse to talk about your business in the vain hope that it will attract people in.

I don't see any other Arkells landlords on here trying to get free publicity and licking the brewery's аrse - why should you do it?

Answer: because you are a sycophantic carpetbagger.
