Doggy blood donors prove they are in good heart

Doggy blood donors prove they are in good heart Doggy blood donors prove they are in good heart

WHILE lotharios had hearts racing around the town for Valentine’s Day yesterday, our four-legged friends ensured they weren’t left out.

Nearly 20 canines proved they had big hearts as they took part in a blood donation session to help pets in need across the country.

For the first time, Pet Blood Bank charity held a session at Vets Now, in Shrivenham Road.

Following an appeal for suitable dogs, the session was a huge success.

Receptionist manager Karl Gawthorpe said: “Usually the first session in a town is quite quiet, but we have been full up, which is great.

“We are really pleased with how it has gone, we have had 17 dogs and only two that couldn’t donate.

“One wasn’t quite heavy enough and the other didn’t like it. If they don’t like it then we don’t push them, we just stop. We are hoping to hold another session in April.”

The donation session was held in a bid to replenish blood supplies and help save the lives of other dogs across the UK – one blood donation can save the lives of up to four dogs.

In order to give blood fit and healthy dogs need to have a good temperament, be aged between one and eight weigh more than 25 kilos, have not travelled outside of the UK and be up-to-date with all vaccinations.
