A PUBLIC drop-in meeting to discuss new parking spaces created in the Eastcott ward is to be held at Savernake Street Community Hall, on Saturday, from 10am to 1pm.
Swindon Council removed some double yellow lines and limited waiting bays on a trial basis in November to create about 100 new residents’ parking bays to meet demand in the area.
However, several residents later contacted the Adver to complain about the conversion of the visitors’ bays, which they claimed were due to stay for the time being under the agreement between residents and the council.
The trial covers 35 streets and was planned to last for six months, after which any necessary changes will be made. Following that, the council expects it to be made permanent.
Coun Dave Wood (Lib Dem, Eastcott) said: “A few problems were caused such as removing visitor bays and a few people were concerned about the safety of individual bays. “The council has invited residents to this public meeting to see how the changes went and whether any changes are needed.
“I would encourage residents to come along and have their say, even if you are happy about all the changes.”
“I think this has been successful and I would like to see extended to other parts of town.”
