A rare steak indeed – but message melts in the mouth
IF YOU have big things planned for February 29 this leap year, we want to hear from you.
Whether you are celebrating your birthday, getting hitched or planning to pop the question let us know your plans so we can join in the occasion.
Over at The Lydiard Beefeater Grill, staff are offering a limited- edition Will You Marry Me steak to any ladies in the town planning to propose to their beloved on the day.
Any sweethearts ordering the 7oz Rump Steak on the leap year day can request the romantically- branded meat.
It has always been the custom for men to declare their affections by dropping to one knee and asking for their loved one’s hand in marriage.
Since February 29 had no status in English Law, it became a day when rigid traditions were abandoned and ladies could speak their mind and take their future into their own hands.
“At Beefeater Grill, we’d like to offer a helping hand to those gutsy girls who are going to take a chance and tell their partners exactly how they feel. Break a leg ladies.”
- Amanda Barnett, of Beefeater Grill

"It's the inevitable result of rampant obesity," an NHS spokesperson said, "mad cows are collapsing all over the place." But 7oz steaks are not to blame, insists a local chef who did not wish to be named. "We serve all our steaks with salad! With salad!"
