A GYM is looking for a new class of budding boxing stars as a professional trainer looks to put them through his school of hard knocks.
Paddy Fitzpatrick, who runs the Fitzpatrick Boxing Academy, in Ferndale Road, wants to enrol school-leavers aged between 16 and 19 for the second year of a course which will see students leave with the equivalent of four GCSEs and a coaching badge.
Current student Jonny, 19, of Eldene, has been boxing with Paddy since he was 16 after spending time at Marlborough House psychiatric unit.
He said: “I can’t find a job so this gives me some structure.
“When I was there I there I started boxing. They had to see an improvement before I was allowed to leave. I got rid of my anger. It gives me the confidence to speak to people.”
Fitzpatrick’s Boxing Academy will also host a free Summer Camp for three months this summer for youngsters aged 15 to 19.
