CELEBRATIONS were full steam ahead for newlyweds Barry and Tricia Edwards as they boarded the train at Swindon and Cricklade Railway.

The bride and groom, of Old Town, tied the knot in the Norwegian Coach at the railway station yesterday in front of 64 guests.

The ceremony was followed by a three-course wedding breakfast on The Moonraker, which took them on a 40 minute round-trip of the line.

Barry, a graphic designer, said: “We’re not particular train fans, it was just a unique venue. It’s something a little bit different.

“We took Tricia’s grandaughter here when we were babysitting and we saw it advertised in a book.”

The couple, who are going to Mexico for their honeymoon, are one of only four people getting married at the venue this year.

They met at the Adver while Tricia was working in recruitment advertising, and they have been together for seven-and-a-half years.

They said the choice of date, at the start of the bank holiday Jubilee weekend, was a happy coincidence.

Tricia, who is now working as a receptionist, said: “The day has been a different experience, it is just a fun venue and it’s memorable.”

Mamie Beasant, superintendent registrar from Swindon Register Office, conducted the ceremony.

The wedding party posed for photos outside the coach and then headed to the platform to start the reception.

The Moonraker, which runs on diesel and steam, took them on a 4.5 mile trip towards Mouldon Hill as they enjoyed the wedding breakfast.

Another 40 guests joined the newlyweds for a celebration in a marquee, which had been put up for the real ale and cider festival today.
