DELEGATES from Swindon recently travelled to twin city of Torun in Poland to celebrate its 15th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Coun Stan Pajak and Mark Sarnowski, chairman of Torun and Swindon Twinning Enterprise, jetted off after president Michal Zaleski invited the city’s 11 twins to the festivities.

Swindon was linked with Torun in 2003 and the Swindon pair, who both have Polish family, joined about 30 other delegates from across the globe to enjoy the cultural exchange.

Coun Pajak said: “We had a very full and enjoyable experience, wonderful hosts and hopefully it opened more twinning opportunities.

“What we really want is for people to come forward and say ‘that’s a good idea’, we can have a holiday or organise a cultural visit or that sort of thing. There’s a lot going on in Torun, and you can form business and cultural links.”

Among the activities, Coun Pajak and Mr Sarnowski visited the Karbowko country settlement, had a horse and cart ride around the countryside, and saw how to make Polish sausage.

''There’s a lot going on in Torun, and you can form business and cultural links.”
