LIME Kiln Leisure Centre swimming pool will re-open temporarily for the summer holidays while a proposed state-of-the art campus is being developed in the community area.
The pool will re-open on July 23 and provide the opportunity for people under the age of 16 to swim for free.
Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade Area Board chairman Peter Doyle said: “We have listened to the community and have been working with the shadow campus operations board so the pool can temporarily re-open while plans for a campus are moving forward.
“The proposed new campus, which will be subject to planning permission, will replace the existing Lime Kiln Centre. This is an exciting time for the community area.”
Stuart Wheeler, the Cabinet member with responsibility for campus development and culture, said: “I am very pleased officers have found a cost-effective way of meeting the public’s desire to reopen Lime Kiln swimming pool while the plans for the new campus are being finalised.”
Nick Moran, the area manager of DC Leisure, said: “We are delighted that the pool is to open in time for the school holidays.
“We have had really positive feedback from local people and are looking forward to welcoming local swimmers back to the centre.
“We are working with the shadow campus operations board and Wiltshire Council to develop a pool programme with the intention of making as much time as possible available for public swimming sessions and this will be publicised shortly.”
