Swindon Town FC hosts football camp for youngsters

Crazy about football camp
CHILDREN have been enjoying a kick-about in the sunshine as Swindon Town does its bit for the community.
More than 1,000 children are expected to take part in courses organised by Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust this summer.
The football camps kicked off yesterday as boys and girls aged between five and 15 headed to St Joseph’s Catholic College.
Courses are being run throughout the six-week summer holidays and are held over three to four days.
The action-packed weeks are run by a team of coaches at Swindon Town, enabling children to make new friends, develop their skills and techniques.
There are opportunities to win prizes and everyone goes away with a goody bag presented on the third day.
As well as the football, children are given a tour of the County Ground, meet the Swindon Town first-team squad and play inside the unique Swindon Town inflatable arena.
Clive Maguire, community development manager, said: “This is a brilliant way to integrate the children into the club and get them learning football techniques from a young age.
“I think parents, especially those who have two or three kids, like the fact there is somewhere they can take the children and they can be entertained in a safe environment for the whole day.
“We have some great facilities here just a walk from the County Ground.
“There are still spaces for the courses later in the summer.”
Nine-year-old Jonathan said: “It is fun to come and play football all day.
“I am a Swindon fan and I got to see the ground which was really good.”
The Trust is also aiming at boosting the clubs fan base and is also delivering courses in Chippenham, Lambourn, Tetbury, Marlborough, Calne, Kingston Bagpuize, Ashton Keynes and Stroud this summer.
