WORK is about to begin to reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses in Haydon Wick.

From Monday, contractors will be mobilising equipment to mark the start of the Environment Agency’s Haydon Wick Brook flood alleviation scheme, due to be completed in spring 2013.

The flood alleviation scheme is designed to reduce the flood risk from Haydon Wick Brook to 118 homes, four businesses and an electricity sub-station.

Residents and businesses have been sent regular newsletters to keep them informed.

Peter Collins, of the Environ-ment Agency said: “This scheme will provide a vital defence to protect against floods and we are pleased to be delivering it with Swindon Council and Thames Water.

“Due to the restricted access along footpaths and bridleways, we will be installing temporary works to facilitate the use of tracked piling rigs and excavators.

“This work will create some noise, vibration and disruption, but this will be closely monitored. We will ensure disruption is kept to a minimum.”

Updates will be on display at the parish council offices and posted on the Environment Agency’s website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/ floods/124785.aspx
