STUDENTS from Commonweal school have just returned from a major adventure in Holland with the British Dutch Walking Fellowship, where they attempted to complete the Nijmegen Vierdaagse, a 100-mile walk in four days.
The BDWF is the largest civilian group that participates and it has members from across the UK and Europe. The event is in its 96th year and attracts some 45,000 participants.
It takes teamwork, dedication, training and a tough mental attitude to make it through the week.
This year the students were hampered by extremely wet weather and the theft of much of their First Aid equipment. Despite blisters, aching muscles, joint problems and extreme tiredness, the majority of them made it.
