SWINDON’S top police officer has welcomed a jail term imposed on a drug dealer for importing former legal highs from China.

Superintendent Gavin Williams said he was pleased with the three years handed to Daniel Greenwood by a judge at Swindon Crown Court last week for supplying banned substances.

The 26-year-old, of the David Murray John tower, was caught with £8,000 in class B drug PVP during a raid in November last year.

And later customs officials in Coventry seized a suspect package of the recently outlawed NRG-2.

But Supt Williams reiterated the need to continue the fight against illegal drugs as he says they are responsible for the majority of other crime.

“Mr Greenwood was the main supplier in Swindon,” he said.

“But, as with any gap in any market, once one person is out of the picture there will be somebody else seeking to come in.

“The message to them is clear – you can see what happened to Mr Greenwood and we won’t let up.”

Last month police ran Operation Atlantic, designed to disrupt supply lines of narcotics into Swindon, with 50 officers seizing thousands of pounds in class A drugs and an imitation firearm.

Anyone who has any information on illegal drugs should contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.
