Children show they’re game at library in Swindon

THE Olympics may have finished but children carried on the gaming spirit with a games day at the Central Library.

Youngsters had the chance to play mini bowling, Nintendo Wii and a host of board games on Saturday as part of an initiative designed to get them engaged with the library service.

The event took place in the library’s HeadSpace area, which was designed by teenagers as a place where they can read, meet and volunteer.

It was all organised by the children who were asked what sort of activities they wanted to do and attracted dozens on the day.

Anish Noble- Harrison, lead for children and young people services, said: “This is all part of the HeadSpace Programme to get more young people engaged in the library service.

“All the ideas and activities have been suggested by the young people and they wanted a games day.

“It has gone really well, we have got a lot of young people coming in and it is nice they have an input into it.”

Nine-year-old Charlotte Pegg was enjoying the day with her mum. She said: “I have really enjoyed it because it has been something different. I really enjoyed the quiz and the board games. We saw a leaflet and came along because it’s different and nice to do something.”
