£1,500 sounds good to Aldbourne Band

AN IMPRESSIVE £1,500 was raised at the Aldbourne Band’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

The band’s Prom concert held this month at St Michael’s Church was a big success and attracted a good turnout.

Many different home-made cakes were on offer along with a range of raffle prizes donated by local businesses – £100 cash first prize from West Street Motors was won by Thomas Bilkey. His father Paul plays soprano in the band and had bought his son the ticket.

Second prize was an Ipod dock and DAB radio sponsored by Clarke and Rodway with third prize from Ramsbury Brewery for a lunch for four at The Bell at Ramsbury. Many other local businesses contributed including ND Services with an MOT voucher.

Chairman James Sheppard said: “We are really pleased that so many local businesses and people support our National Championship Section Band.

“Aldbourne Band was established over 150 years ago and the fact that it is still in existence and thriving is fantastic.

“We have a Training Band, a great supporters group with The Friends, charity status and competing at Championship level against bands which have major sponsorship support, shows what can be done with commitment, enthusiasm and belief.”

The band can be heard on Sunday, September 2 at the Pond in Aldbourne, where they will be playing at the carnival church service starting at 6pm. This will then be followed by their last Pond Concert of the year during which the lowering of the carnival flags will take place.
