Take a big trip around the world of books in Swindon

BOOK-lovers in Swindon are being urged to take inspiration from the many different countries taking part in the Paralympics as part of a summer reading challenge.

Libraries across Swindon and the south west have joined forces to create a Reading Passport, inviting library users to explore the world through reading.

Swindon Council’s library staff have put together recommended booklists for every continent of the world and all library users have to do is read six books, one each from five continents plus one other of their choice.

Book lists are available from all of the town’s libraries or by visiting online at www.readsouthwest.

blogspot.com Those taking part can then use their Reading Passport to review the books they have read and hand them into their local library.

Each review received by September 30 will be entered into a regional prize draw to win a ‘suitcase of books’. Swindon entrants also stand a chance of winning a £50 book token.

There will also be author visits and events across the region, so library users should look out for posters in their local libraries and notices in the press.

The council’s Library Service is also once again running the Summer Reading Challenge for children aged four to 11.
