Youths run riot in quiet street
7:20pm Monday 3rd September 2012 in News By Scott D'Arcy
Coun Emma Faramarzi at Haydon Wick, where they have been problems with anti-social behaviour
GROUPS of youths have been giving residents a headache with early-morning antics including shouting and running over parked cars.
Councillors and neighbourhood police in Haydon Wick say they have been made aware of the anti-social behaviour by homeowners in Cloudberry Road and Speedwell Close.
The allegations include gangs of teenagers hanging out in the residential streets, sometimes until 5am, and being loud enough to wake residents in the quiet cul-de-sac.
It comes after youths also damaged a car in Cloudberry Road when at least two of them ran over its roof.
It happened just before 1am on August 26 when a group of four lads and two girls, all of whom were wearing hoodies, went through the area. Trainer footprints have been found on the roof of the car, one of which appears to be a Fila branded shoe.
Coun Emma Faramarzi (Con, Priory Vale ) said the problems have coincided with Environment Agency work on flood defences at the green space off Westfield Way.
She said: “The site has been cordoned off while they carry out the work and it’s pushed the youths who usually hang around there late at night elsewhere.
“Residents have complained that they have been noisy and destructive and some times are out there until 5am.
“It’s the old thing of not wanting to speak out in case of repercussions, though.
“I would be mortified if my child was out at that time in the morning causing trouble. You have to wonder whether the parents know what they are up to.
“The area is quite quiet and perhaps not the normal area for police to patrol but we have a good relationship and they are aware of the issues.
“Anyone with any problems should contact them or come to the next locality meeting to voice their concerns.”
The next North Swindon locality meeting will take place on Monday at 7pm in the North Swindon library, which is at the Orbital Shopping Park.
Anyone in the Cloudberry Road or Speedwell Close area who has any issues is also asked to call North Swindon police on 101.

I would point out that the area where the environmental work is being carried out is where they normally hang out and that is disturbing to the people in Stonecrop Way!
So perhaps the Councillors will do something about keeping the site free from the gangs once the work has finished?

Name and shame the blighters but do it as a community.
It is usually just 1 or 2 'asbolites' leading a pack of bored kids.
If the bored pack see the leaders get into trouble they tend to run back to mummy.
If everyone openly use their phones and film youngsters with hoodies, they will be intimated and go elsewhere as they can be identified.
You need to identify the kids and take it up with their parent or social services.
Hold a community/street meeting regarding the anti social behaviour.
You might get to know your neighbours!

I was elected as your ward Councillor in May this year. The Boundary review means that your road is now in the newly formed Priory Vale Ward and not the Haydon Wick Ward. I have personally delivered two or three leaflets and one newspaper to your door. You will have also had your door knocked twice by me and a canvass card put through if you were not in to speak to me. I accept there is a small possibility that I missed your house but I am disappointed you have been unable to get any information about your ward Councillors despite my efforts. I know the area very well because I walk my children to School through the road almost every day and if I do a small amount of shopping I walk home that way with it. Just two weeks ago as I was walking through I stopped and introduced myself to some of your neighbours. I asked them how disruptive the Environment Agency had been so far and they told me it was fine but that youths who usually hang around on the green there had started to come and cause problems in the roads around you keeping them up until 5am. A gentleman walking his dog came up and had the same conversation with me. When the Police appealed for witnesses I informed them of the complaints I have received. In my experience I doubted very much that the Police would offer any information to me about who you were and so I have not been to come and see you to discuss this.
I did not go to the Swindon Advertiser about this issue. They have picked up the story elsewhere and contacted me for comment. It just so happens that I was aware of on going problems and asked them to inform residents via the article to come and meet us and the Police at the next North Locality meeting so we can try to offer you some assistance and / or aid the Police in finding these people who so disgustingly damaged your property and are continuing it seems to blight your life.
My motives are pure and I am only interested in helping the community where I live.

But what have you actually done to start solving the problems!
You have given a sound bite and you passed some details to the police!
Ok, your trying to arrange a meeting...! Well you by your own admission knew of the issues two weeks ago. Have you met with the police to properly discuss the issues as you state you only passed some details over when they appealed for witnesses.
For the benefit of others the details of both the North locality and the next meeting can be found at these links.

Seriously social services and police should be taking an interest in any parent who doesn't know where they're child is at 5am. Surely this is child neglect
