WORK on Haydon Brook is now well under way.

The work is being carried out to help prevent 118 homes, four commercial properties and an electricity sub-station from river flooding.

It will provide protection and mean there is only a one per cent chance of flooding in the future.

The area has been flooded three times in 10 years, including devastating floods in 2007, which left more than 50 families homeless.

Coun Claire Ellis said: “I’m delighted that things are now happening on the ground.

“Once the scheme is completed next year, not only will residents have peace of mind but the local environment is going to be much improved.”

While the work is carried out, footpath closures will take place in Charlock, Haydon End Lane and Rushmere, and construction traffic will be working near to homes in Torun Way, Sage Close, Rosemary Close, Borage Close, Parsley Close, Coriander Way, Chatsworth Road, Auden Close and Pope Close.

To find out more, displays will be available at Haydon Wick Parish Council Offices in Thames Avenue between 9am and 4pm on week days.
